Let x be the total number of population
then according to the problem,
p(car)=20% of x=x/5
p(bus)=50% of x=x/2
p(car ∩ bus)=10% of x=x/10
since,
p(car ∪ bus)=p(car)+p(bus)-p(car ∩ bus)
p(car ∪ bus)=x/5 + x/2 - x/10=3x/5 persons ans.

if x(population)=100
Then persons travelling by car or bus will be 60 persons.

If there are 100 persons,
20 travel by car and 50 travel by bus.
10 travel by both.
so number of persons travelling by car or bus = 20+50-10 = 60
so 60% travel by car or bus.

p(car ∪ bus)=p(car)+p(bus)-p(car ∩ bus)
Here given
p(car)=20%.
p(bus)=50%.
p(car ∩bus)=10%.
Putting the above value into formula we get p(carUbus)=60%.
ans is person travelling with car or bus is 60%.

=20+50-10=60

we knw that p(aub)=p(a)+p(b)-p(anb)-->1
p(a)=people travel by car=20/100=1/5
p(b)=people travell by bus=50/100=1/2
p(aub)=people travel by both=10/100=1/10
sub in 1
1/10=1/5+1/2-p(anb)
p(anb)=6/10=3/5
so 60% travell by car or bus
