and the required standard weights are 1, 3, 9, 27

ans=4, Three std weights of 2 kg each and one std wt. of 5 kg

We just need to factorize the magnitude of the highest weight, i.e., 40.

40 = 2x2x2x5

to weigh 1kg → 2x2 kg in one pan and 5 on the other

to weigh 3 kgs → 2 kg in one pan and 5 kg on the other, and so on.

Answer is option (a)
try by keeping either of the weights on the two pans (1,3,9, and 27 )
such that u get all the weights measured betweeen 1-40
eg: for measuring 15 kg i would place 27 kg on one pan and (9,3=12kg) on the other such that the net weight=27-9-3=15kg
