given angle diff=9mins
we know
1min=6 deg
therefore 9mins=9*6=54 deg
so the angle diff must be 54 deg
better to go through the options
let us consider
A.5hrs 14mins
find angle
angle traced by hour hand=(5*30)+(14/2)=157
angle traced by minute hand=(14*6)=84
angle diff=157-84=73
similarly for option C.
angle traced by hour hand=(7*30)+(48/2)=234
angle traced by minute hand=(48*6)=288
angle diff=(288-234)=54
so option C

Short cut:if the hour hand points exactly on any marking then the minute hand would definitely be pointing to a minute value that is multiple of 12. Its easy then to check and get option c correct.

See here,Consider all options rather than solving it.
Logic: Minute markings hand we can directly count.
But for hour hand:
we know that,
In 1 hr i.e 60 min, hour hand moves 5 positions.
hence,it will take 12 min for 1 position.
Now consider options:
option c : 7:48
we know that for minute hand 8 positions are required(From 8 to 9: 5 positions +3 positions from 9 )
Remaining is for hour hand between 7 to 8 ??
This can be judged by the above hour logic.
48 min means the hour hand will move 4 positions(12* 4)
Hence the hour hand will be 4 places from 7 that is (5 - 4) = 1 place from 8
HENCE FINAL ANS IS : 8+1 = 9 positions ( c option)

ans is option c.
1 hr=360 deg
60 min =360 deg.
1 min=6 deg.
9 min=54 deg.
use formula to find angle between min and hr hand of clock=>(30*h-11*m/2)
using above formula->
30*7-11*48/2=(-54)deg.
ignoring -ve sign as it is for direction only .
hence answer is 54 deg.

ans C:

as we know that 60 mins=360 deg

means 1 min= 6 deg
so 9 mins= 54 deg.

so we have formula like ( 11/2*m)-(30*h); where h=hours hand time and m= mins hand time
so take c option
subst in that formula

we got 54
so 54=54;

we know
1min=6 deg
therefore 9mins=9*6=54 deg
so the angle diff must be 54 deg
better to go through the options
and to find the angle there is one formula
tita=11/2(m)-30(h)
here consider m=mins,h=hours
go through option c i.e...,7:48 -->7hours 48mins
substitute this in above formula
11/2(48)-30(7) we get 54 deg... :)

Instead of calculating so much, just imagine a clock and do trial and error with the options. You will get the answer in a few minutes. The answer btw is: C) 7:48
