b^2+64-16b=b^2
b=4
a=-4
a:b=1:-1

D) can not be answered by both statement together
1) a=b-8 a:b have many possiblities...... not sufficient

2) a^2=b^2
a=(b^2)^1/2
a=+b or a=-b so this statement is also not sufficient

1+2) here also there will be 2 possibility.... so can not be answered by both statement together

c. Both statements are required to get the desired answer

For Instance we have asked for the ratio of a:b

1st condition

a=b-8 or we can write it as b=a+8.... that is 8 greater than a itself.... in this point we are unable to get
ratio as we can just guess the two numbers not prove it

now the 2nd condition is a^2=b^2

In these condition we have to go for hit n trial method and think of a integer which satisfy the condition
by taking a=-4 and b=+4 the difference of which comes out to be 8 satisfes the 1st condition apt the 2nd condition too....

hence, both the statements are required

for all those people who are solving the question to give the ratio u dnt need to solve the question here its a data sufficiency problem which can be only solved if both statements are taken together

Let us take
a= (-4), b = 4
These values satisfies the above equation... Thus ratio will be 1:1,as ratio is never negative.

when solve both equ. we get a=-4 and b=4 so ratio is -1:1.

a=b-8=> b-a=8
b^2-a^2=0=>(b-a)(b+a)=0
b+a=0
b=4,a=-4
Ratio=1:1

since a^2-b^2=0
(a+b)(a-b)=0
but it is given that a=b-8
so if (a+b)(a-b)=0
then either (a+b)=0 or (a-b)=0
so (a+b)=0
a= -b
a:b = -1:1

Frnds what ever you take the value of y x is always greater than y.
2x-2y=1
that does mean 2x>2y
=> x>y
=> x/y>1....so only statement 1 is sufficient to ans the question.
