initially price/dozen= 12y/x;aftr purchasing 10 more--new dozen prices= 2*12/x+10...now.. 12y/x- 24/x+10 must be equal to 80/100 dollars...keep substituting the options.. (5,1) fits in

trying the options, 5 flowers for 100 cents. the clerk offers 10 flowers for 100 cents.

5 for 100 cents
1 for 20 cents
___________

10+5 for 100+100 cents
1 for 200/15 cents
____________

Saving per flower =20-200/15 = 100/15 cents
saving for 12 flowers 100/15*12= 80 cents

so this option satisfies the equations
hence the answer is C

let's go with options:
opt:c
for 5 flowers initially =100 cents
after the offer, 15 flowers =200 cents
but considering initial cost we should pay 300 cents
so we saved 100 cent for 15 flowers ,
now savings for 1 flower = 100/15 =6.66
finally savings for 12 flowers (dozen) is = 12*6.666 =80
ans: opt c

d must be the ans...bcz (5,1) does not comes from the given information of the problem...rather it comes from optn...so if there was no such opn as (d) in that case (5,1) will be the ans...bt here the ans is optn d

Explanation:
Given she bought x flowers for y dollars.
So 1 flower cost = yx
12 flowers or 1 dozen cost = 12yx
Again, x+10 cost = 2 dollars
1 flower cost = 210+x
12 flowers or 1 dozen cost = 2×1210+x=2410+x
Given that this new dozen cost is 80 cents or 4/5 dollar less than original cost.
⇒12yx−2410+x=45
From the given options, c satisfies this.

going through option c
the clerk gives -
15 flowers only Rs. 2
12 flower on Rs.= (2/15)*12 = 8/5

now practically the cost was

5 flowers = 2 Rs
12 flowers = 12/5 Rs

now based on two results

real cost - discounted cost of 12 flowers = (12/5)- (8/5) = 4/5= 80/100= 80% of real cost

so option C is the answers

option (c) is correct.
1 dollar=100 cents
When x=5 & y=1 dollar=100 cents,
the cost of one flower=20 cents,
so,the cost of 15 flowers=(15*20)=300 cents
But the shop keeper is giving 15 flowers for 2 dollars(ie 200 cents)
so 100 cents is saved
It is given that we can 80 cents for a dozen means we can save(80/12 =6.66cents) for one flower
so 15*6.66=100 cents.

Its very simple if you know 1 dollor= 100cent. Now lets solve the question.
80 cent save for 1 dozen(12 flowers) then
200 cent (2 dollor) save 2.5 dozen (30 flowers) (calculate as 12/80*200=30)
Now 2 dollor save 30 flowers then
1 dollor will save 15 flowers

By question we got an exuation as
X+10=2dollor or y
And we know 1 dollor is equal to 15 flowers so by that
5+10=1 is our ans
So x=5 and y=1.
