if husband needs upto 511 rupees her wife can give from bags contain 1,2,4...256 and for more than this one bag of 489 ruppes and rest of money can be taken from 1,2,...256 bags.

read the question carefully..
No. of coins in each beg=

beg 1= 1 coin (2^0)
beg 2= 2 coin (2^1)
beg 3= 4 coin (2^2)
.
.
beg 10= 512 coin (2^9)

the set of coins in each beg would be:

1(2^0), 2(2^1), 4(2^2),.....512(2^9)

she will put 1 coin in 1st bag, 2 coins in 2nd bag and 4 in 3rd, 8 in 4th, 16 in 5th, 32 in 6th, 64 in 7th, 128 in 8th, 256 in 9th and 512 coins in 10th bag. this will help the wife to give any denomination to his husband by giving some bags. you can try yourself by taking any number.

In Ith bag, she has to be 2 power (i-1) coins where i not equal to 10, in 10th bag, she puts all remaining coins.
