ans is 89
the oz planet has a clock of 18 hours so ter is 36 hrs per day
total angle is 360 degree, therefore for 1 hour it is 360/18 =20
so 1 hour = 20
but 1 hour has 90 min
so 90 min= 20
so for 1 min it is, 20/90 =0.22222
so 1 min=0.222
at 12.40,
i) 12-8=4
8 is bcoz at 40th min the clock stikes at 8
for 1 min it is 20, therefore for 4 it is 4*20=80
ii) at 12.40,
40*0.2222=8.8888

therefore the solution is i+ii = 80+8.888 =88.88 =89.

formula is:if day is in n hours
step 1: 1 hour=360/(n/2)=x degree
step 2: one min=x/min contain in every hour
step 3: one min=360/min contain in every hour
step 4: difference:ans of step 3 - ans of step 2
step 5: hour given * ans of step1+ans of step 4*minute given=desire ans
answer:
step 1: 360/(36/2)=20 degree
step 2: 20/90=2/9
step 3: 360/90=4 degree
step 4: (4-2/9)=34/9
step 5: (12*20)+(34/9)*40=88.88=89(approx)

total angle made by hr hand=240+(4/9)*20 =nearly 240+9=249
n total angle made by min hand= 40*(360/90)=160
hence ans=249-160=89

We see that
Angle covered by hour hand in 1 hour = 360/18 = 20 degree
In one min 20/90 = 2/9 degree
Angle covered by minute hand in one min = 360/90 = 4 degree
now, 12-8=4 ,(8 is bcoz at 40th min the clock stikes at 8)
hence [4*20 + 40*2/9] = 88.88 = 89
