for the 1st article,cost price
=(100*480)/(100+20)=400
for the 2nd article,cost price
=(100*480)/(100-12)=545.45
total CP=400+545.45=945.45
total SP=480+480=960
so profit=960-945.45=14.55
%gain=(14.55*100)/945.45=1.54%

1.2x=480; x=400
.88y=480; y=545
totl cst prc=400+545.45=945.45
salng prc=2*480=960
prft=960-945.45=14.55
%=14.55/945.45=.0154=1.54% (ans)

Lets take calculation on 100
if 120 is the sp then 100 is the cp
1 sp then cp is 100/120
480 sp 100/120*480=400
similarly
if 88 is the sp then 100 is the cp
1 100/88
480 is the sp then 100/88*480=545.45=545(let)
total 545+400=945
480+480=960
if we sell at 945 then 15 is the profit
1 15/945
100 15/945*100=1.5 gain(approx)

Ans:- profit of 1.5%
we can solve this by using harmonic mean formulae.
2ab/a+b -100 = 2*120*88/120+88 -100 = 1.5%.

there is a formula if u have two difffnt artical are sold at the same s.p and having g/l of x% on the 1st and g/l of y% on 2nd then g/l will be

100(x+y) + 2x.y/(100 + x) + (100 + y)
now,
100(20 + 12) + 2.20*12/(100+20) + (100+12)
after solving we get 408/29 = 14.06
gain will be 14.06

so, 1.2x=480; x=400
.8y=480; y=600
total cst price=(400+600)=1000
selling price=480*2=960
loss=1000-960=40
%=40/1000=.04 * 100=4prcnt

480=(88/100)*y
y=545.45
x+y=400+545.45=945.45=total cost price
Profit=960-945.15=14.85
14.85/945)*100=1.57%=profit percentage
