the scientist is in south pole the bear is in black color

He can only be near North Pole because the North pole is only place where such combination of movements can bring him back to research station. Read carefully that he is not ON the north pole because from north pole you can't go north. Now the color of bear is a different story on poles bears are white. but if white is not an option then we can go only for gray because only gray bears live in ice. not others.

Ques is incomplete .. in this ques this is also given that the scientist laboratory is placed on north pole.. and the bear will be off white color
