A1= l*b
A2= (l*140/100)*(b*80/100)=1.12*lb

so, area of garden is by 1.12 times of old area.

a+b+ab/100;
a=40 because length is increases;
b=-20 width decreases;
40-20-(20*40)/100=20-8
12%

Let the original length and breadth of the garden be l and b units respectively
so,
area= (l*b)=lb units

on increasing the length by 40% new length= l+(l*40%)=(140*l)/100 units

again on decreasing the width by 20% new width= b-(b*20%)=(80*l)/100 units

new area= (l*140/100)*(b*80/100)=1.12 lb units

hence the area of the garden is 1.12 times the original area

according to the options available fr this qn ... gardens area increased by 12%
solution: assume that length is 100cm and width is 50cm then the area of the assumed rectangle is 5000cm. now the length is increased by 40%means new length is 140cm and width decreased by 20% means new width is 40cm then the area of the rectangle is 5600. 600/5000*100=12. answer is 12% increases

answer is 112
area of new garden is 112
let suppose initial area of garden is 100 then
is increase by 40% means become 140 and area decrease by 20%
140-28=112
