simple way to answer this type of question is.......... focus on the remaining part of the stipent only.....
let X be the monthly stipent.... then
(1/2)*80%*55%*X= 880
X= rs. 4000

sOLUTION----->>>> [100/(100-45)] * [100/(100-20)] * [100/(100-50)] * 880
Ans =4000

LET MONTHLE STIPEND BE x
45*x/100=9x/20
remaining=x-9x/20=11x/20
(20/100)*11x/20=11x/100
expenses=11x/200
11x/200=880
x=200*880/11=200*80=16000rs

let the initial amount be x. then
45% on food and transport = 45/100*x = 9x/20
balance= (x-9x/20) = 11x/20
20% on book = (20/100*11x/20 ) = 11x/100
balance = 11x/20 - 11x/100 = 44x/100
half of the remaining on other expenses = 1/2*(44x/100) = 22x/100
22x/100 = 880 => x= 880*100/22 => x = 44,000

20% of remain 55 % is 11%
Left money is 880/. Nothing but 44%

let monthly stipend be x.
x*45/100=9x/20.
cost of book nd remaing other expenses=(x-9x/20)*20/100=11x/100.
remaing=(11x/20-11x/100)=44x/100.
according the question,1/2*(44x/100)=880
x=4000

food and transport 45/100*x=9/20*x
Remaining=11/20*x
on book=20% of 11/20*x=11/100*x
Remaining=11/20*x - 11/100*x=44/100*x
other expenses=0.5*44/100*x
Now
0.5*44/100*x=880
x=4000(Ans)
