the two numbers can be written as
272738 = n*a + 13 .......(i)
232342 = n*b + 17........(ii) , where n is the two digit number
a,b are the divisors
(i) => n*a = 272738-13 = 272725
(ii) =>n*b = 232342-17 = 232325

the last two digit number of the above two numbers is 25
and it is only possible for n=25
i,e, 272725 = 10909 * 25
232325 = 9293 * 25
so the answer is 25
and the sum of digits will be 2+5 = 7

7 is the answer

H.c.f is 25

Ans is 7

@deepika , your hcf is wrong
232325 when divided by 75 the remainder is not zero.

divisibility rule of 25..if last 2 numbers are 00 or 25,it is divisible by 25

Instead of so much calculation simple way to do is given total 18 pencil of which cost of white is 1rs more than brown.. So try to proceed as total no of pencil should be 18 nd cost of white should be 1 rs more than brown ie 5*8=40 we need 60rs more that can be 6*10=60.. Here we get cost of white rs 6 nd brown 5 nd quantity of white 10 nd that of brown 8.so cost of 1 white pen is 10 nd quantity is 6

From the given information, (272738 - 13, 232342 - 17) are exactly divisible by that two digit number.
We have to find the HCF of the given numbers 272725, 232325.
HCF = 25.
So sum of the digits = 7.
