Probability of Tomm passing=0.3,So Probability of Tom doesn't pass=0.7
Probability of John passing=0.4,So Probability of John doesn't pass=0.6
Probability that none of the two passes = 0.7*0.6= 0.42
probability that at least one of two passes = 1-0.42= 0.58

Ans=0.58
Probability of Tomm passing=0.3,So Probability of Tom doesn't pass=0.7
Probability of John passing=0.4,So Probability of John doesn't pass=0.6
probability that at least one of them passes=(Tomm passes*John fails)+(Tomm fails*John Passes)+(Both of them passes)=0.3*0.6+.04*.07+0.3*0.4=0.58

Probability that at least one of them gets the degree is:
0.3*0.4=0.12

pby that Tom passes = 0.3
pby that Jack passes = 0.4
pby that both Tom and Jack pass = 0.4*0.3 = 0.12
now they are asking atleast one ... So it has to be min one of them need to pass and max both will pass.. So 0.3+0.4+0.12 = 0.82
