Write the alphabetical order of the letters of the given word ' maths ' as a,h,m,S,T

Now strike off the first letter m
a,h,m,S,T
Then count the no.of letters before m, and it is equal to 2,which is the coefficient of 4!.

Again strike off the first letter a
Then count the no.of letters before a and it is equal to 0 which is coefficient of 3!

Again strike off the first letter t
Then count the no.of letters before T and it is equal to 2 which is coeffcient of 2!

Again strike off the first letter h
Then count the no.of letters before a and it is equal to 0 which is coefficient of 1!
for s it is equal to 0!

2(4!)+0(3!)+2(2!)+0(1!)+1=48+4+1=53(ans)

another shortcut formula
m a t h s
arrange them in alphabatical order
a h m s t
so a=1,h=2,m=3,s=4,t=5
Step 1: Write the word and above it,put the alphabetical ordering.
Step 2:Write below,the factorial values starting with 0!(=1) from right to left.
Step 3:Write the number of numbers less than(in top row) the number towards right of it.
Step 4:Multiply the numbers shown by and add.
Step 5:Add "1" to get the rank of the word.
Example: The rank of the word "MASTER" is
Step 1: 3 1 5 2 4
M A T H S
Step 2 24 6 2 1 1
Step 3: 2 0 2 0 0
Step 4: 48 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 0=52
Step 5: 52+1=53(ans)

explanation:
in step 3 it comparing the value from step 1,for ex 3 has
2 value less than it on right side
1 has no value less than on right

We start alphabetically, firstly it start with 'a', all words starting with 'a' are 4!
Then comes 'h', similarly all words starting with 'h' are 4!
Then comes 'm', arranging the rest of the letters alphabetically, we get, mahts...which is not we want so all the no. of words starting from 'mah' are 2!, then comes 'mas(th/ht)' which is also not we need->2!
Then mat(hs)->1
so, 4!+4!+2!+2!+1=53
