then go by option . the options are a)7kmph b)3kmph c)5 kmph d) 4 kmph
j+p=7

take option b)5:2 .... (24/5+24/2)not equal to 14
take option c)4:3......(24/4+24/3)=14 hrs
so the ans is 4:3

question is complete..!!
sol: 24/7-j + 24/j =14
here j is jack speed n 7-j is paul
on solving we get a eqn
14j^2-98j+168=0
solving we get j=4 n 3
but jack is faster hence ans is 4 km/hr..!!

speed be x ,7-x hence sum of speed is given.
t1 =24/x t2 =24/7-x =14 sum of time given.
solving we get7x-x^2=12.
x=3,4
since jake runs faster hence answer is 4.

sum of speed=7 km/hr
total time taken=14 hrs.
distance=24 km.
jake+paul=7km/hr.
time=distance/speed
assume from options given.
14=(24/4)+(24/3)
14=6+8.
there fore speed of jake is 4.
reason for 4 is :just assume the answer from the option and compare it ,because 24 is divisible by 4 and 3from the option

(d/t1+d/t2)=7....(1)
t1+t2=14......(2)
from eq 1
t1*t2=48(d=24)
t1-t2=sqrt((t1+t2)^2-4*t1*t2)....(3)
solve eq 1 and eq 3
we get t2 and t1 value
after that speed of jack is d/t2
24/6=4kmph
