1st boy: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,....
2nd boy: 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,...
3rd boy: 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,...
therefore common shops are 6,12,18,24,...
1000/6 = 166 shops

shop number 840 is visited by 32 members..... which is the highest no.of count... the members visited to this shop are....
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 20, 21, 24, 28, 30, 35, 40, 42, 56, 60, 70, 84, 105, 120, 140, 168, 210, 280, 420, and 840.
simply it is the number with highest no.of factors in the range of 1 to 1000

Pls read the qn carefully.
Consider ice cream shops numbered 1 to 1000. The first boy goes to 1,2,3,4....1000. The second boy goes to 2,4,6.....1000. 3rd goes to 3,6,9....and so on and so forth. Which shop will get the most customers?

Here there are Boys are not three (3) only.
Statement says
The first boy goes to 1,2,3,4......1000. The second boy goes to 2,4,6....1000. 3rd goes to 3,6,9.....and so on and so forth.

so we consider there are 1000 boys .
If there are more than 1000 boys, the last boys will not visit any shop up to these 1000 shops.
The number of shop getting max customers will be 6! or 720

ACC TO MY POINT OF VIEW ANS IS SHOP NO= 1000,IF WE CONSIDER 1000 CHILDERN THEN EACH CHILD GO THERE

ans: 840.. has 32 factors, which is highest no of factors in 1 to 1000

series for 1st boy:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....
series for second boy:1,3,5,7,9,....
series for 3rd boy:1,4,7,10,13,....
numbers common to all the 3 series is 1,7,13,19,...
here a=1;d=6;n=?
let tn=997;
997=1+(n-1)6
n-1=996/6=166
n=167
max shops visited=167

Parijat: the answer for your Q could be any one among the multiples of 6 until 1000. Else the Q should have been how many shops ONLY..

second boy-2,4,6,8.......
third boy-3,6,9,12.....
fourt boy-4,8,12....
so maximum customer go to shop no.12,24,36,....(taking l.c.m.of 1,2,3,4,)
so 83 shops are maximum visited
