Stacy's rate is 25% faster, meaning that she covers as much distance over the same time. So for every 9 miles total that the two cover, Stacy covers 5 and Katie covers 4. With a 27-mile route, and 27 breaking into ninths (3 * 9), the math works out cleanly via this conceptual method: With a 5:4 ratio and three sets of 9 miles to cover, Stacy will cover 15 miles and Katie will cover 12.

Therefore, the correct answer is 15.

we knoe speed is directly propotinal to distance.
so let they meet at z distance
then by ratio approach
125:100::x:(27-x)
solving it we get , x= 15..

Total distance is 27 Miles
the mid point will be 13.5 Miles
stacy's speed is 25% faster than katie's
so 13.5*1.25= 16.875 miles
so stacy would have covered 16.875 miles when she passes Katie

in solution of kuldeep patidar...
speed of stacy is 1.25mile/unit.
then in last
(x/1.25)=(x-27/1)
solve this then
answer is x=33.75-1.25x
& 2.25x=33.75
the answer is x=33.75/2.25=15

let speed of katie is 1 mile/unit
than speed of stacy is 1.25 mile/unit
let distance cover by any one is x and by second is (27-x)
time taken by both when they cross each other is same
(x/1.5)=(27-x)/1
by sol. x=16.2 mile ans.

speed of Stacy is 5/4mile/unit
speed of Katie is 1 mile/unit
time=distance/speed
they will meet after t time
by equating time--->
4x/5=27-x
so x= 15

let Katie travel a miles...==> Stacy travel (27-a) miles

Katie's speed= x
Stacy's speed= 1.25x

let they meet after t time
t=a/x ;;; t=(27-a)/1.25x

equating and solving both equations, we have, a=12 ==> stacy has to travel 15 miles

Let speed of s= 125
.............k= 100
27/225 *125 = 15 ans
