sol is if son takes 5x days, father wil take x days.thus 4x is the difference in days which is equal to 40.therefore,x=10
and 5x=50
thus the work is done together in 50/6 days

let takes x days TO COMPLETE THE WORK than father will take x-40

as we know time is inversely propotional to speed so
time=1/speed

fatherstime/sonstime

x-40/x

and given that speed ration btwn father and son is 5:1

so x-40/x=5/1
x-40=5x
4x=40
x=10
so if father and son work together than

1/10+1/50
25/3 days is ans

1/x = son
5*(1/x) = father

according to question-->
5/x = 1/(x-40)
on solving x=50
so => 1/x + 5/x
=> 1/50 + 5/50
=> 6/50
means 50/6 days

then son 1
and if son done in 50 days
father done that work in 1o days
so total ratio is 6 then
work for 50days -> 50/6

there fore father can complete work in 40 days
combine work be x+5x....

no of days when they work combine be y

so eqn.. (5x/x+5x)=(y/40)

5/6 = y/40

ans y=100/3

Time taken is inversely proportional for efficiency.

Since the father is 5 times faster than the son, the time taken by the father and son to complete the work will be in the ratio 1:5.

Let the no. of days be x and 5x.
The father takes 40 days less.
5x-x=40
x=10
If both of them work together,
(10*50)/(10+50)
= 500/60
= 8(1/3) day

then father done in x/5 days
as per given information
x/5=40 => x=200
therefore son efficiency is 1/160 per day
and father efficiency is 1/40 per day
together f+s = (1/40)+(1/160)=5/160=1/32
therefore f+s complete in 32 days.

Lets take whole work 1,and son do x unit work per day and father unit work per day ,
so
1/x +1/(5x) =40 days
1=50x (total work)
so 50x/(5x+x) = 8+1/3 [father 5x,son x]

father is 5 times faster than son
if son completes 1 part then father completes 5 parts
let son completes the work in x days
father will complete the same work in (x-40) days.
so (x-40)*5 = x * 1
=>5x-200 = x
=>4x = 200;
=>x = 200/4 = 50
if son completes the work in 50 days then the father will complete the same work in 40 days less, that mean in 10 days.
per day father completes 5 parts. total work is 5*10 = 50 parts.
per day son completes 1 part. total work is 5*1 = 5 parts.
hence per day both father and son will complete (5 + 1)parts = 6 parts.
so day required = 50/6 = 8.33333 days = 9days

if father does a work in x days, son takes 5x days.
diff = 4x =40
so, x=10 and 5x= 50
in one day father does 1/10 work and son does 1/50 work.
together (1/10 + 1/50 i.e. 6/50)
so they will take 50/6 days i.e. 8.33 days

son complete the work in 50 days and father take 10 days for complete the work.....
1/50+1/10=6/50 work done in 1 day if both work together..
so 50/6 days required
