150 sticks because when he put 50 sticks in a box then he will be able to fill three boxes
reducing the number of sticks by 25
total box that can be filled is 150/(50-25)
=6 three more than the previos one

Let no. of matchstick assigned to boy=n;

no. of matchsticks he put in each box=x;

And, the no. of boxes=y;
Initially we have;
=> n / x = y. -----------------------(i)
After he reduces no. of matchsticks in each box by 25, we have :-
=> n / x - 25 = y + 3. -----------------------(ii)
On solving eq (i) and (ii), we have;
=> n= 3* x * ( x - 25 ) / 25;

i.e. no. of stick must be a multiple of 25;

Let x=50, we have;
=>3 * 50 * (50-25) /25.
=> 3 * 50 = 150.

Hence, the required number of sticks is 150.

200- coz 40*5 box= 200
now 25*5 box= 125 so 75 remaining with this can fill 3 boxes of 25 sticks
