x2 + y2 = (x+y)^2 - 2(xy)
=>(2)^2 - 2(1-(21/2)^2)
=> 4-2(4-441)/4
=>4-(437/2)
=>(8+437)/2
=>445/2 = 222.50

X = 1 + 2^1/2 = 1 + sqrt(2)
Y = 1 - 2^1/2 = 1- sqrt(2)
X^2 = ( 1 + sqrt(2) )^2
= 1 +2 + 2 * 1 * sqrt(2) ( (a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 + 2ab )
= 3 + 2 * sqrt(2)
Y^2 = ( 1 - sqrt(2) )^2
= 1 + 2 - 2 * 1 * sqrt(2) ( ( a-b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2 * a * b )
= 3 - 2 * sqrt(2)

X^2 + Y^2 = 3 + 2 * sqrt(2) + 3 - 2 * sqrt(2)
= 6
