A man has some socks in his drawer: 17 identical blue, 49 identical black. The lights are out and it is totally dark. How many socks must he take out to make sure he has a pair of each colour?

Solution

If these are 17 and 49 pair of socks then answer will be 49+1 = 50
but if these are individual socks and there is no difference between left and right sock then answer = 49+2 = 51
