The manager told the clerk to return $5 to the students. The clerk, knowing that the students would not be able to divide $5 evenly, decided to keep $2 and to give them only $3.

The students were very happy because they paid only $27 for the room ($9 each). However, if they paid $27 and the clerk kept $2, that adds up to $29. What happened to the other Dollar?

Each paid 9$.
Total they paid 27$.

2 $ with clerk and $25 with Manager.

There is no problem.

Clerk has taken $2 out of $27 paid b students and not from $30 they paid earlier.

$25+$2-$9*$3=0
student1=(+$1),(-$9)=$10,
student2=(+$1),(-$9)=$10,
student3=(+$1),(-$9)=$10,
clerk=$10+$10+$10=+$30
clerk=+$30-$5+$2(or$27)=$3

There is no missing dollar. The students have paid $27 and have kept $3 for themselves and that adds up to $30. Not a real puzzle... just a mistake in math! You cannot tally the clerks total twice, it's already included in the $27 the students have paid. The equation is incorrect...if they paid $27 and the clerk kept $2...then that does not add up to anything.

exact way to solve this problem 10,10, 10 from each boys

10+10+10=30 total.
at the time of hotel check out manager says original cost is 25 not 30.
then per person cost is (25/3=8.3333333333333333)*****this the only prob keep in mind the value of 25/3
clerk gave 3 rs to them and 2 rs kept with him only.

then total amount is calculated as....
(8.3333333333333 per person* 3)+(1 rs each i.e. 3rs)+(2 rs with clerk) should be =30
then 8.3333333333= 25/3 okkk

(25/3)*3+3+2=30........is it okkkk

$25 (each gives $8.33) so
.33*3=.99 ~_ 1
