A train goes from stations A to B. One day there is a technical problem at the very beginning of the journey & hence the train travels at 3/5 of it's original speed and so it arrives 2 hours late. Had the problem occured after 50 miles had been covered, the train would have arrived 40 min earlier(i.e., only 120-40 = 80 min late). What is the distance between the 2 stations?

It the problem occurs at the start, delay=120mins
It the problem occurs at 50miles from start, delay=120-40=80mins
similarly when the problem would occur at 150miles from the delay=0
thats because the train is already at the destination.. ;)

s1:s2=5:3
t1:t2=3:5
diffrence in time=2 hours
original time=3 hours
Indirectly, in this train has travelled 50 miles in 40 minutes.
so in 3 hours =225 miles which is the distance between A and B

Indirectly,the train travels 50 miles in 40 minutes with it's original speed.
so,original speed=60*50/40=75miles/hr
let,distance=x and time taken with original speed=t hours

so,75*t=x
and (75*3/5)*(t+2)=x

solving,.. x=225 miles

For 50 miles distance delay is 40 min.so for 1 mile distance delay is 4/5 min or we can say delay is 1 min for every 5/4 miles.
hence,for 120 minutes delay it has to travel =120 x 5/4 =150 miles

Initial speed:x;after glitch:3x/5;basically we ought to consider the 1st 50 miles coz the rest cancels out while equating both cases;so-by problem,50/(3x/5)-50/x=40.on equating we get x=10/12;so now we have x,again,putting x=10/12 we have 50/10/11=60mins ;60 mins for 50 miles-one part done now distance,from the problem we can formulate:10/12*t=10/12*(3/5)*(t+120);we get t=180 so 60 mins for 50 miles;180mins=150 miles...

The train travels 50 miles in 40 min
So it travels 50 miles at its original speed in that 40 minutes that means
Total distance is 120/3= 40
50*3= 150

40 min earlier means it has covered this in its original speed..i.e. speed=40*2/3=75.
now we have original time t and it covers at 3/5 of its original speed so time it will tak i.e. t2=5/3t.
so t2-t1=2.from here t=3hrs.
so speed=75 nad t=3hrs distance=75*3=225 mles
