Let the train be at a distance 'd' from the bridge.
And speed of train be 'x' and speed of cow 'y'

If the cow runs in the opposite direction
(d-2)/x = 15/y
y/x = 15/(d-2) ---(1)

If the cow runs in the same direction of train
(d+38)/x = 23/y
y/x = 23/(d+38) ---(2)

From (1) and (2)
15/(d-2) = 23/(d+38)
d = 77

ie,
Speed of cow/speed of train
= y/x
= 15/(d-2)
=15/75
=1/5

Ratio = 1:5

let the ratio be 1:m
x' = dist. of the train from the bridge end

when cow runs towards the train.
(20-5-2)/1 = (x'+2)/m ......(1)

when cow runs away from train
(20+5)/1 = (x'+38)/m .....(2)

=>solving (1)&(2) we get
m=3

let train y m far away from bridge then the equation-: y-2=4vt
let the bridge length is 2x then then position of cow is=x-5;from the middle point of bridge; x-5=vt
solving it we get y=4x-18.....i
now in 2nd case.....
position of cow is x+3=vt
and position of train=y+2x-2==4vt
solving....it
14+4x=y......ii
now solving iand ii
we get x=16
then 2x=32
