to complete 7 hours
because
1/16 of tank 3 hrs
1/8 of tank 4
1/4 of tank 5hrs
1/2 of 6tank hrs
full tank 7 hrs since the tank filling like 20,40,60,80..

Given:
B in 1 hr fills = 40 lit;
B in 3 hrs fills = 1/16 th of the tank
solution:
B in 3 hrs fills= 3*40
= 120 lit
now 120 lit = 1/16 0f the tank;
if 120 lit are required to fill 1/16 of the tank then the remaing 15/16 of the tank is filled as follows:
120 * 16 = 1 tank
1920 lit = 1 tank
now 1920 litres are required to fill the tank;
1 hr = 40 lit;
? = 1920 lit;
1920/40= 48 hrs
48 hrs are required by B to fill the tank

If 1/2^n is filled in x hours, then answer will be (x+n) hours.
here n will be (1/16) can be written as (1/2^4) n=4 and x= 3 hours i.e x+n= 3+4=7 hours.

1/4---5hrs
1/2---6hrs
1=====7hrs....req to fill frnd's..

1/16 3 hrs ie 120 ltr
1/8 ie 240 ltr
1/4 ie 480 ltr
1/2 ie 960 ltr
1 ie 1920 ltr
b's capacity to fill the tank is in AP d=40 threrfore every increase in 40 1 hr will increase
nthterm=first term+(n-1)*d
1920=120+(n-1)*40
n=45
now total hrs required to fill thetank=45+3=48 hrs
