Ans is 24
Let he was x year old that time, then i am 2x year old now.
Now if he is y year old now, then i was y year old that time.
Let time is t
So y+t=2x
x+t=y
Given 2x+y=42
By solving, my present age 2x=24 year

Other way-
I=2(H-(I-H))
And I+H=42
By solving
I=24 year

let age is x and 2x
so x+2x=42,
x=14,
so 2x=28,,,option (d)

28 is wrong. Many person do same mistake thats why i asked this question.read question carefully.

let my present age=x;
and his present age=y;
then according to the question:
x+y=42....(1)*3
2{y-(x-y)}=x
=>2(2y-x)=x
=>4y-3x=0.....(2)

3x+3y=126
-3x+4y=0
.........
7y=126
=>y=18;
then x=42-18=>24(ans)
