p = pat's current age
c = chris's current age

difference d in their ages is p - c
d years ago, Pat was as old as Chris is now.
d years ago, Chris was c-d years old.

"Pat is twice as old as Chris was when Pat was as old as Chris is now."
p = 2(c-d)
= 2(c-(p-c))
= 2(2c-p)
= 4c - 2p
4c = 3p
c = 3p/4
= 18

Pat is 24; Chris is 18.

suppose chiris is 2x years old
some year ago
age of pat- 2x
then age of chrish x

so now age of pat 2x+x=24
x=8
age of chrish now 2x=16
now current age of chris is 16......

simple chris pat
current age x 24
past z x
24=2z or z=12 or 24-x = x-12 or2x =36 or x =18 ( chris age now)

24 (present age) 'x' (present age)
' '
' z years ago 'z years ago
' '
'x' (pat was as old as chris is now) 2(x-z) (pat is twice as old as chris)

x(past)+z(years) = 24(present)....................x+z = 24
from given condition..................................x = 2(x-z)
x = 2(x-(24-x))
3x = 48
x = 16 ans

"Now, if Pat is 24, then Chris was 12 (half Pat's current age) at some
point in the past. That point was when Pat was as old as Chris is now.
Restating it, some number of years ago - let's call it x - Chris was


12 and Pat was Chris's current age."
24-x=12+x
12=2x
6=x
24-6=18 Chris's age
12+6=18
