let husband->h,wife->w,son->s.3years ago(h+w+s)/3=27, h+w+s=81, now adding 3 to all of them age for present age((h+3)+(w+3)+(s+3))=81, (h+w+s)=81-9=72->eq1, 5 years ago (w+s)/2=20, w+s=40,now adding 5 to all of them for present age ((w+5)+(s+5))=40, (w+s)=30, now sub w+s=30 in eq1 then h+30=72, h=42

let present ages of husband, wife and son are h,w,s.
three years ago their ages would be (h-3),(w-3), (s-3)
avg==> [(h-3)+(w-3)+(s-3)]/3=27
==> h+w+s-9=81 ----(1)
==> h+w+s=90
five years ago the ages of the wife and sons are (w-5),(s-5)
avg==> [(w-5)+(s-5)]/2=20
==> w+s=50
substituting in (1)
==>h+50=90
==> h=40
