I did this way yesterday. I think its correct. given abc is 3digit num and a+4b+c is divisible by 42

Take 3 numbers such that a+4b+c is divisible by 42.
I took b=9, a=1, c=5 so the a+4b+c = 42 which is divisible by 42.
So the number abc is 195.
195 is neither divisible by 4 nor 6,9. If one example doesnot satisfy the condition. then those 3 options are not answers. Hence I thought its
d) none

coz factor of 42 are 3 ,2,7
means nmber is divided by 3 bcoz sum is divisible by 3. so ans will be 6.

abc is a 3digit number. So our range of selection will be from [0 to 9]
Now 42 is divisible by 42... SO a+4b+c =4 + 4*9 + 2 = 42 Here we have selected a=9 b= 4 and c=2
Hence abc = 942 which is not divisible by 4 and 9
BUT 942/6 = 157

a+4b+c can have a maximum value of 54. so by the given condition a+4b+c=42.

Starting from b=9, we can see a+c should be equal to 6. where a+b+c is 15. A condition for divisibility by 3.
Again when b=8, a+c should be 10. a+b+c=18. abc is divisible by 3.
when b=7,a+c should be 14. a+b+c=21. abc is divisible by 3.

So i think answer should be 4)None of these

Hi Guys. I wrote the correct ans for this question. And many of them has commneted a wrong way of solving. If you read the question clearly they said a+4b+c is divisible by 42, which does not mean that abc should be divisble by 6 because a+4b+c and abc will be two different numbers.

Take 3 numbers such that a+4b+c is divisible by 42.
I took b=9, a=1, c=5 so the a+4b+c = 42 which is divisible by 42.
So the number abc is 195.
195 is neither divisible by 4 nor 6,9. If one example doesnot satisfy the condition. then those 3 options are not answers. Hence NONE will be the answer

Sagar, Kindly read the question clearly.
According to the question is a+4b+c is divisble by 42, then a+4b+c should be divisible by 6 and it's not necessarly trur that abc should be divisble by 6.

abc and a+4b+c are two different numbers.

If i take a=4,b=8,c=6 then
a+4b+c=4+4*8+6=4+32+6=42 which is divisible by 42
hence three digit number is 486 which is divisible by 4,6 and 9 also...so wht is the proper answer ??

let the no be 387 where a=3 b=8 c=7.
then 3+4*8+7=42 ie divisible by 42. and it is also divisible by 9.

I think so, ans is None of thease
because we take 876 then it is divisible by 4 and 6 both
and if we take 678 it divisible by only 6
and we take 387 then it is divisible by 9.

4) none of these, since a number like 393 cannot be proved to be true.
since, 3+ 4*9 + 3 is divisible by 42, but 393 isn't divisible by any of the above.

Explanation: the no is divisible by 42 means no is also divisible by 7,3 and 2 i-e multiple of 42

42n=a+4b+c, abc=100a+10b+c, abc=99a+6b+42(n)
only factor that can be pulled out with certainty is 3, hence (d)

2*3*7 are the factor of 42.if a number divisible by 42.obiviosuly number is divisible by factor of 42.so i think answer is 6.

294 is the number check 2+4(9)+4=2+36+4=42; so 294 divisible by only 6.....so b will be the answer

ANIL YERRAGUNTLA::: If you prove atleast one of the all combinations is wrong, then that is not the answer. I proved that 195 is one of the combinations where a+4b+c is divisble by 42 and abc is neither divisble by 4,6 nor 9.

Hence u should not say that it will be divisble by 6. It may be divisible by 6 and it's a concidence.
