it can be solved using 1 statement alone....and thats d reason it's a elit ques becoz most of us will solve it using both equation and choose the wrong ans

its a tricky question....most of the student will say both the statements are required to answer the question....
but in this particular question option1 is sufficient to ans the question....
because 7m+5n=29 this is satisfied only possibilties value of m=2 and n=3 and no more ans is possible in hit n trial also it has a unique solution
but in the second statement we can determine the value of m and n in different ways....saucha as 1+5
2+4,3+3,4+2
if the same situation arises in the first equation then we should combine the two equation....
but here only 1st statemen is sufficient should be the ans....

7m +5n = 29
2m +5(m+n)=29
from second equation putting the value of m+n =5
2m=4 and m=2 hence by second equation again n=3 so mn=6

m + n = 5(multiply both sides by 7)
subtract equation second from first,we get
7m + 5n =29
7m + 7n = 35
n = 3
substitute value of n in any equation.
m = 2
mn = 6.

Ans - only 1st is sufficient.
from eq 1, m = 7 , n= -4 but in question given that m & n are +ve
again check that if the value of m, n exceed from 3 than we cant be get 29
so check for 0, 1, 2, 3 by suing both stmnts we can find m=2,n=3 but as ist is data sufficiency 1st stmnt is sufficient

Ans - only 1st is sufficient.
from eq 1, m = 7 , n= -4 but in question given that m & n are +ve

again check that if the value of m, n exceed from 3 than we cant be get 29, so check for ( 0, 1, 2, 3) & got (m,n)=(2,3) satisfy.

We need both statement to answer this question. Because we cannot rely on hit n trial method if 29 is greater then 100. So,
7m + 5n = 29..... (i)
m + n = 5.... (ii)

by taking m = 5-n from (ii) put in eq. (i)
then
7 (5-n) + 5n = 29
35 - 7n + 5n =29
6 = 2n
n = 3 put this value in eq. (ii)
so m = 5-3
m = 2.
So both statement required.

First of all, I think you should type the given equation as
33 w + 32 x + 3y + z= 34,
Since w & x are non-negative integers,
both w and x cannot be greater than 0.
In other words, one of w and x must be 0.
When w =0, we have 32 x + 3 y + z = 34.
If x = 0,then 3y+z = 34.
But both y & z are less than 3, so 3y + z

logically value of m can not more then 3
put m=1
5n=22 it can not be satisfied
put m=2 5n=15 then we got n=3
problem solved using statement 1 only

Actually it might have been data sufficiency question and so maybe here it seems simple to solve but in that case it will be a little tricky as only 1st option is sufficient enough to solve it.

=7*2 + 5*3
=14 + 15
=29

.'.7m + 5n = 29 &, m + n = 5.

m + n= 5
=2+3
=5

m=2 & n=3,
the value of mn= (2*3)= 6.

7m+5n=29
5*(m+n=5)
7m+5n=29
-5m-5n=-25

put the value of m in any equation
2+n=5

m=2

simple equation solving problem from 2)n=5-m and substitute n value in first equation and get m=2 and put that m value in 2 then n=3

it can be solved by 1st eqn only bcoz the unique sol of 1st eqn is where m=2 n=3 .
