X+y=360
x-2+y-1/2=340
so there are multiple solution

let n cat and m kg cheans are there, so we can form 2 equations like this-
ncat+mchean=360---(1)
now according to the given condition we can also form an equation like-
(n-2)cat +(m-1/2)chean=340---(2)
solving this two equation we get
2cat+(1/2)chean=20
now multipling both side with 18 we get-
18*(2cat+(1/2)chean)=20*18
36cat +9 chean=360
hence,there were 36 cats and 9 kg cheans... :)

ESCAPED 2 CATS AND 1/2 KG CHEAN COST =360-340=20
2X+1/2Y=20
TO MAKE IT 360 ON LHS WE WILL MULTIPLY BY 18 ON BOTH SIDES
36X+9Y=360
SO ANSWER IS 36 CATS AND 9 CHEAN

and now there is (36-2)=34 cats and (9-(1/2))=8.5 kgs cheans
