Chord length = 2 $sqrt{r^2 - d^2}$

= 2 $sqrt{8^2 - 6^2}$

= 2 $sqrt{64 - 36}$

= 2 $sqrt{28}$

= 2 X 5.29

= 10.58 cm

Let x be the distance the 8cm chord and the centre.
then
distance between chord and centre=sqrt(radius^2-(chord length/2)^2)
x=sqrt(r^2-(8/2)^2)
x^2=r^2-16;

r^2=x^2+16;

x+1 is the distance between 6cm chord and centre
(x+1)^2=(r^2-(6/2)^2)
(x+1)^2=r^2-9;
from above eqn,
x^2+2x+1=x^2+16-9
2x+1=7
2x=6
x=3;
sub in first eqn
x^2+16=r^2
r^2=25
r=5
therefore d=10
