Zeous and Poseidon had been rivals for the hand Thetis until from Prometheus, the fire bringer warned Zeous of a prophecy that Thetis would bear a son greater than his father. For this reason the 2 Gods withdrew their pursuit and had her wet Peleus. The following statement is another interesting prophecy about the ages of 2 children of Zeous that would hold true at some time during the life time of the children. 3 years ago Ethina's age was twice Hellena's age. 3 years hence Ethina's age will be 4/3 times the age of Hellena. Find Ethina's present age in binary numbers during the time that statements hold true?

Solution

let present age of Ethina is X year;
and present age of Hellena is Y year;
now 1st statement says: (X-3)=2(Y-3);
and 2nd statement says: (X+3)=4/3(Y+3);
hence solving these equations we get: X=9 and Y=6;
and hence Ethina's age will be in binary: 1001.
