let age of peter be x and that of paul be y. And z be the number of years ago indicated by the word "when" above. Now A/Q x+y=35---(1) x-z=y or x-z-y=0---(2)
x=2(y-z) or x-2y+2z=0--(3) solving equations (1),(2)&(3) we get x=20 y=15 z=5 so present ages are 20 years(paul) and 15 years(peter)
