He start out with 31eggs.

In the end, he have 3eggs left.
So,
3*2 +1= 7
7*2 +1= 15
15*2 +1= 31

31eggs he had initially.

let initially the vendor has x no. of eggs
sold left with
1st customer (x/2)+(1/2) (x/2)-(1/2)=(x-1)/2
2nd (x-1)/4+(1/2) (x-1)/4-(1/2)=(x-3)/4
3rd (x-3)/8+(1/2) (x-3)/8-(1/2)=(x-7)/8

as finally he left with 3 eggs, (x-7)/8=3
therefore x=24+7=31

31/2 + 1/2 =16 (1ST); 15 LEFT
15/2 + 1/2=8 (2nd); 7 LEFT
7/2 + 1/2=4 (3rd) ; 3 LEFT
total=31

ans is 24
24/2=12(1st customer)
12/2=6(2nd customer)
6/2=3(3rd customer)
so at last he had left 3 eggs
ans is 24
